Sameness in Humanism
With a total of over 80% of foreigners , Dubai is known as the most diversed city in the world. Within a matter of seconds you can hear the transition of languages that goes from English to Arabic, Malay, French, Portugese, Tagalog, Hindi, Spanish, etc. Despite that, most of us still choose to only associate with people with similar backgrounds and social classes. I would like to emphasize that this is not what it should be like.
Even so, there are efforts made to change such mindsets. The sameness project is an association that organise online and offline projects. The sameness project was given life to create sameness and equality among all human beings despite their backgrounds. (http://www.thesamenessproject.com/)
As the heat starts to take over Dubai, Water for Workers, a program under the sameness project was held and it met at my school. My family and family friends decided to take part and just fill our Saturday morning with something productive. Each vehicle was given 2 boxes of water bottles and face towels and they are responsible to distribute these to labourers around the city. The area we chose was Deira. Few minutes before it turned 11, we were already at the Deira coniche wharfage. The sun was shining bright and so my integumentary system was secreting so much of sweat. That however did not stop us from completing our mission. It was a Saturday, so the people working at the wharfage weren't as busy as they usually are. It was tiring but undoubtedly worth it.

As they have said, the aim of this is to interact and show appreciation to the people who have built the city we live in. According to 7DAYS UAE, over 450 volunteers have participated in handing out more than 10,000 water bottles and face towels across Dubai. Isn't that amazing? It proves that there are still people among us who care.
It was a very great and pleasant experience and I highly recommend everyone to participate in such activities. Nothing feels better than being able to give back and simply cheering up someone else's day. Wether it's a bottle of water that we all take for granted or those small conversations can turn someone's frown into a smile, a bad day into a good day. Things like this inspires me to give more rather than receiving. Water for Workers 2015 round 2 will be taking place on June 13th, at Collegiate American School Umm Suqeim 2. Mark the date and join me cause I'm definitely going!
Well, I guess that's about it this time. Remember appreciate those around you, no matter what skin color, beliefs, cultures they have. We as humans are all the same, no one is better than the other. Have a nice day and thank you for taking your time to read this blog post. I really appreciate it xx
