Terrapuri: Land of the Palaces

Hello everyone,

First off,  I'd like to wish you all a happy eid mubarak, or summer break! Hope you guys have had a great time wherever you are.

Like every year, my family and I celebrate the first few days of eid in Terengganu (one of the 14 states of Malaysia located in the east coast) which is pretty cool actually cause we get to experience the balik kampung feels since my other kampung is literally 20 mins away from my house. During our whole stay there, we've been fed with nasi dagang, nasi minyak, satay, ketupat and all those other mouthwatering but high in carbo food that I cannot resist. So if you see me don't even dare to ask why I became fatter, okay?

On the 4th day of Eid, before heading back home we had our little family getaway. Still in the same state, just 45 minutes drive away from Kuala Terengganu.

Located in Setiu, Terengganu, Terrapuri Heritage Village is a conservation and restoration project of antique Terengganu
traditional houses. Terrapuri features 29 of these classic traditional houses which are all over hundred years old.

Yes, that's where we had our long anticipated short getaway. It wasn't our first time there though. Our first visit was back in 2013 when I was too immature to appreciate their magnificent  architecture. I am so glad that my parents decided to visit the place again.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by their staff along with the majestic view. We were served ginger tea which I didn't quite enjoy and watermelons to be enjoyed under the hot weather while my parents were checking in and all those stuff.

Staying in an over 100 years-old wooden villa under the humid and scorching weather seems impossible right? Unless you wanna suffocate in it that is. But hey, air conditioning does exist okay and each of these villas are equipped with those must-have & heaven-sent facility.

They also provide wifi in the library but its too slow to even work.  But hey,  I managed to survive being wifi-less and social.

That's where we had our meals with a view of the swimming pool and greenery.

The toilet's so pretty I wouldn't mind sleeping in it.

Did I mention that the resort was located just opposite the beach?! Since we were there for only a day, there were no time to waste. We spent the evening cycling around Kampung Mangkuk whilst enjoying the vibe and refreshing breeze.

From our stay there, I found out that Kampung Mangkuk got its name from the discovery of a golden bowl by a villager. But they could've named it Kampung Mangkuk Emas (golden bowl) or something though cause if you're used to the Malaysian slang mangkuk sounds more like an insult. AHAHAHA okay.

Bicycles are provided for guests, for free!

I had so much fun cycling but too much cycling hurts my butt. And after a long break from cycling I now realise that its not that easy after all.

So I guess that’s pretty much our stay in this majestic lost kingdom of palaces. If you’re a sucker for exotic and traditional resorts or seeking for peace and calmness, I assure you, this is the place. But if you're more into lively vibes and modern architecture this place is not for you.

FUN FACT: The hit Malaysian film, Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa and Bunohan were both shot here.

Toodles.
