victims of greed
As I was scrolling down my twitter feed a few days back, this picture of a toddler lying on the beach face down caught my attention. Oh how cute, I thought. But something seemed wrong. I mean, hello?! Why would anyone even choose to take a picture of their half drowning child first, then save them? Little did I know that it was lifeless Aylan Kurdi’s body. My heart just broke upon knowing what happened to this child.
Just imagine if he was your own child, or your brother, cousin or at least a kid you know.
While I sit on this sofa, typing on my laptop with a roof over my head, millions of innocent Syrian civilians are risking their lives to cross boarders of other countries in hope of getting to live their life like most of us are. They’d go on a boat, walk thousands of miles or even swim across the Mediterranean sea (some might even die on the way) just to live another day. But is it that simple? Would any country willingly accept them? Is there enough space for all of them?
Isn’t it bad enough that they have to see a war happening in their own land and now they’re being rejected by many countries. Having to run away from the place you call home is a major distress. Even if they get to live in another country with comfort and luxury, it still wouldn't be the same. Nothing beats home, not even Disneyland (cause they say it's the happiest place on earth). But guess what? This chaos is caused by our own species!
If this doesn't concern you just because they don't have the same beliefs as you do then honestly, why are you still in this world? Grow up people, this is not even about religion anymore. It's about humanity.

During my trip to Turkey last winter, I saw with my own eyes in what conditions these refugees were in. Kids had to beg for money, they would even chase after cars just to get a few bucks. It is indeed very sad seeing them having to struggle for basic necessities.
If only I had the power to change all these.
However, there's also a huge number of
overwhelmingly understanding and kind countries that warmly welcome them. Lebanon and Jordan hosts the most number of refugees if we were to compare from their population and economy, according to UNHCR (United Nations Refugee Agency). Lebanon being a small country itself is already hosting over a million refugees,
making them a quarter of its population. And Jordan, well most of it's citizens have Palestinian roots.
It's great to know that humanity still
exists in this cruel cruel world. This video of Syrian refugees being welcomed
in Germany, Austria and many other countries I saw just warms my heart and
restores my faith in humanity. May Allah swt bless these countries and the
people. You all have my respect.
So what are we waiting for? Let's do our part and help raise awareness to help humanity. We might not be able to stop the war, but we can pray, and help with whatever we can to let them live normally again or at least secured from danger. The smallest gestures could make big changes.
